Asthma and eczema are the most common diseases of childhood and are enormously expensive to treat. These diseases have strong genetic origins.
Gene discovery programs and candidate gene investigations are greatly limited by the availability of families to study.
This proposal will create a national collection of 1000 nuclear families with severe allergic disease. Five hundred nuclear families will be identified through a proband with severe atopic asthma and 500 nuclear families will be identified through a proband with severe atopic eczma.
