Written proposals - guide

The UDBN Technical Committee will examine your written proposal. It should contain:

  • a description of the samples you wish to receive
  • the number of DNA samples you wish to receive
  • the quantity of DNA you wish to receive
  • a list of all the tests you wish to perform
  • the platform you propose to use and the manufacturer's recommendation on the amount of DNA required
  • a justification of the quantity of DNA that you want
  • a justification of the DNA sample type that you want (blood-derived DNA from blood; cell line DNA or whole genome amplified DNA)
  • your plan to enable access by UDBN to the data that you will obtain.

The  remit of the Technical Committee is to review proposals for investigations that require access to DNA in UDBN, to take account of the amount available for each sample, to determine whether the amounts requested are justified, to specify whether blood-derived DNA, whole genome amplified (WGA) DNA or cell line DNA should be provided and to approve the plan to enable access to the data that you will obtain.

The UDBN administrator (administrator AT dna-network.ac.uk) will be happy to advise you at every step, to receive your advice and to try to accommodate your needs. UDBN relies on you to provide feedback to improve the service.
